Abstract

The present study examines the role of sexuality in the emancipation processes of adolescent girls. It is studied from a psychoanalytic perspective in a non-clinical setting by focusing on changes in the mother-daughter relationship. Within the theory of transition from the “ethical family” to the “affective family”, the work carries out a qualitative analysis of semi-structured interviews conducted by Counselling Centre /Family and Youth Clinic operators with mothers and their adolescent daughters (aged 14-18). The analysis of these transcripts highlights the difficulties of adolescent girls in taking on the responsibilities of becoming young women in today’s society. The role of Counselling Centres/ Family and Youth Clinics in encouraging these important developmental processes is also discussed.
