Abstract

Attending preschool is often for many children born in immigrant families the first “public” social experience and it is therefore an important opportunity to talk to parents and listen to their voices and to observe the ways the children are cared for. Contexts which allow parents to express their ideas and that encourage dialogue are rare. The study we are presenting aims to induce change and describe contexts where parents can speak, using edited-video as stimuli to give voice to their ideas and concerns about the education and care of their young children and the role of pre-primary education. In this paper we will discuss some of the themes addressed and discussed by parents in video-initiated focus groups.
