Abstract

This paper presents the results of a study carried out on 20 families having adolescent children who were video-recorded during a family problem solving. The aims were: first, to analyse families’ interactive styles, second to focus on the adoles-cent’s role within the family, and third to describe patterns of family functioning. On the basis of a series of observable family (degree of efficiency, quality of involvement, emotional climate) and individual indicators (the role of adolescents), we could divide families into four groups (cooperative, based on confrontation, based on role and disaggregated). This last group of families can be considered as critical in terms of family’s functioning
