Abstract

The present study explores, through semistructured interviews, intergenerational family relations, with a specific focus on grandparents’ role , bicultural identity and well-being of 24 second generation adolescents living in Italy. Results of qualitative analysis show a conceptual model that groups participants into four different clusters (named “citizens”, “inhabitants”, “stateless”, “lost”), showing the importance of transmission of migration history and family’s culture of origin for an integrated bicultural identity, and individual well-being, from both psychological and sociocultural point of view
